He was just trying to be free
But his parents couldn’t let him be
They could only love him conditionally
They wore the cloak of success
Believed the lie that work is freedom
Sequestered his play to an institution
But his heart beat strongly
His body swayed with the breeze
He couldn’t be kept under lock and key
One day he slid out from his shackles
See this body grow lean
When you stop eating the energy you need
They took a vow to be
Ascetic in all ways that feed
The spirit so they could grow like the tree
To follow the lower lessons of gravity
Not everything falls freely
The lowest fruit is often plucked
By an arm stretching upwards
So they took a a bow to free
The fruit from the tree
To scatters it’s seed
And love it unconditionally
How can I see the bigger picture yet fuss
Over a single displaced stroke
Where are the dreams of delusion
That used to wash over me
Where are the words that make me human
I seem to lose one everyday
Except love that never leaves
How can I wear both lock and key
Plunge the key into the hole
Turn to see it fit
Life will lick you if you let it
So you gotta take up the fight
Even if it defeats you
Otherwise you’re just biding time
And time is boundless as space
Invest in a future you might not see
Or you may never be
Love is waiting for you just around the bend
If you make it through the end, you will be a true friend
